About Lisa Thimmesch
I wish I'd had a coach
I led multiple teams over my 30+ year career, ranging from 8 to 200 employees. I always worked to stay humble as their leader and remember they were the experts in their role, I was there to support them. Late in my career I had a situation happen at work where I found myself in new territory and it was frightening, confusing, lonely and so much more.
After surviving that situation, (yes surviving) I found myself taking a hard look at my career and asking if this was the type of work I wanted to do the rest of my life and the short answer was, NO! A friend introduced me to coaching so I enrolled in a coach training program and have never looked back. Being a coach and having a coach has made me into a better person and leader.
If there was one wish I had for myself during my previous career, it would be that I’d had a coach. A coach to work through everything I was struggling with, either within myself or in my relationships with my team members and bosses. I would have probably thrived during that “situation” instead of survived if I’d had a coach that gave me a safe space to be vulnerable and work through everything that was happening. But I didn’t and this is one of the many drivers for me to coach other leaders.
Leadership can often feel like going through a maze blindfolded and when you don’t feel safe or supported that’s when you start questioning your abilities and skills. This is why I coach, I want Leaders to believe in themselves, understand why they think and feel the way they do and hold themselves accountable to how they will grow and develop. If you are looking for a safe environment where you can be vulnerable and grow as a leader I invite you to sign up for a free Lead Like a Coach discussion.
